Females’ Guide to Understanding Leadership

This book by Dr Neva Helena Alexander is created from a female perspective for women around the world. Unlike many other books about leadership, this one combines practical experience from the classroom, boardroom, and research on women’s studies. The aim of the author is for females to become better leaders in the many avenues of their lives.

This book will help you to understand: the definition of leadership and you, how to lead with passion, how to be a critical thinker, groups and teams effectiveness, how to represent values to people, ethics, performance, strategic planning, the dynamics of working in the community, organizational behavior, change leadership, gender and cultural influences on leadership, and the link between entrepreneurship and leadership. Case studies are presented to help readers better understand the principles.

This book will give you an improved perspective on leadership. To get the most value from this book for developing your leadership knowledge and skills, you should engage in the various activities found in each chapter. These activities are designed to increase your understanding of your strengths and weaknesses as a leader. They also provide you with approaches to expanding your proficiency as a leader.

The exercises are based on the assumption that women can exercise leadership in many aspects of their lives—including activities that are often viewed as routine. They are also based on the assumption that leadership development is an ongoing process, requiring continuous self-reflection, learning, and skills improvement.

It may be helpful to keep track of your responses to the different exercises and activities contained in the book and periodically repeat the activities to determine if your leadership skills and perspectives have changed over time. Ideally, your leadership abilities should continue to improve as you gain knowledge about yourself and the techniques you can use to motivate and inspire others to achieve a common goal.
